Its pretty much autumn up here in Williamsport. The leaves are officially turning, it's in the 40s when I get up in the mornings, and I swear the other day I smelled woodsmoke -- yeah, it's that serious. I'm running the heat right now.
I wanted to talk briefly about my newest obsession: thrifty home decor on a budget. Check out this blog, this lady is awesome --http://thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com. Tons of great, creative, inspirational ideas for every season. I've started decorating for Halloween already, that's how inspired I was. The whole porch so far has cost less than $20 between Big Lots, the thrift store, and the Dollar Tree. I eventually plan to try to make the inside of my house livable. There's still nothing in the dining room, and the living room is a mess. Need some things to put on the walls. Maybe a nice area rug. Something. I like the kitchen though, pretty happy with that overall.
I'm still thinking that the dining room should have a picnic table in it. A lovingly hand-distressed picnic table, upon which I will display my eclectic tea set and my shot-glass checkers board.
The lack of feng shui is killing me.

Everything I Need to Know, I Learned From Biking in Billtown
Okay, so this is gonna be a compilation of things I've learned about biking around town up here. It'll update from time to time.
1. Don't buy a fancy bike. You can ride on the sidewalks up here, and should you decide not to in an attempt to keep from hurting your bike, well guess what? The roads really suck too. Nuts.
2. If you ride at night, have lights. Many lights. Do not set your headlight(s) to strobe, as this will likely result in the death of at least one pedestrian.
3. No one wears a helmet up here. Even the motorcyclists don't. This is important because, should you get in a fight with a biker and are wearing a helmet, you'll have an advantage!
4. Suspension or GTFO. Your butt will thank you later.
5. Just because you're on the sidewalk doesn't mean cars won't still try to run you over. Hitting a bike is the second-most important goal of every car, right under hitting an old woman pushing a stroller.
6. Pedestrians will not get out of your way. Ever. Run them over, and then they'll learn.
7. Always remember that you are just as squishy as a pedestrian, and less capable of leaping agilely out of the way in the event that shit gets real.
8. If you're biking on campus and you lock your bike to anything that isn't a campus-approved Bicycle Securing Structure (tm) they will literally destroy your lock and jack your ride, yo.
9. You can totally get a DUI while biking. Lame.
And that's enough for now. To be updated in the future as needed.

My alphabet soup is talking to me...
It says... I dunno... it looks like Russian to me.
Hi folks. I've decided to do a blog about my time here in Billtown. Everyone else is doing it, and who am I to resist peer pressure?
So here I am, too old to be a normal student, just barely too young to be considered "nontraditional." Which is ok, I'm used to living in the middle of things. I'm very Buddhist in that way.
In this here blog, I will be talking about whatever craziness occurs in this little slice of Smalltown, USA, and I'll probably also offer advice (which no one will listen to) as I see fit. I've got a whole slew of advice for any potential bikers out there, so look forward to that. There will also probably be recipes, and any tricks I learn to living within a budget, and other stuff and things.
Exciting, right? I know!!
And with that, good night, gentle reader(s). I shall speak to thee anon!
